Celebrating Store Milestones: Our Favorite Ideas

Anniversaries and other major milestones in your business are worth celebrating—so be sure to do so in a big way! While celebrations for business achievements are good for you and your employees, they’re also good for customers too, as they often provide the perfect opportunity for sales and other promotional events.

Mark off your milestone with a sale

If you’ve been in business for a sizeable chunk of time, you no doubt want to celebrate (and reward your customers) in a big, exciting way. One fitting way to do this is to offer a special anniversary sale. You can offer a percentage point off for every year you’ve been in business, for example, or host a “flashback” sale that features prices you used back when you were first getting into the business.

The sale you choose of course depends on what’s feasible for your business—but no matter how much you take off, you can be sure that customers will love it! These kinds of sales are special, and since competing businesses aren’t celebrating big milestones at the same time you are, you’re more likely to draw in an impressive crowd.

Provide guests with fun and entertainment

Even without a sale, you can give your customers something exciting to look forward to. Put on a special store party, bring in entertainment for the kids, or offer a special demonstration to the public showcasing your area of expertise (whether that be art, music, etc.). It’s fun to do something out of the ordinary every once in a while—and your customers will agree—so be sure to branch out and try something new.

Send shoppers home with something special

Everyone loves getting a little something special in the form of a small gift or token of appreciation. Send your shoppers home with items that speak to your appreciation for their loyalty, whether they be exclusive decorative pieces, apparel, or other unique finds. These gifts can often serve as incentives for shoppers (who will be willing to spend “x” to receive that additional token) and are easy ways to mark off big milestones in your business.

Give back to the community

If the community has been serving you for the entire time you’ve been in business, you might be looking for ways to give back to the community. You can do this in a wide variety of ways, such as adopting a highway, decorating a park bench, or dedicating a local garden on your business’ behalf. These acts show your appreciation for the community and highlight your continued relevance in the area.

Revisit key parts of your business

Just like you might replace your smoke detector’s batteries every year on your birthday, major milestones in your business might be great opportunities for revisiting or rechecking key processes. Is your advertising working? Are old classics selling like you want them to? Did any product surprise you with success this year? Ask yourself these questions—and create your own—for a constructive assessment of your business at every stage of the game.
